Samuel’s Story
Samuel Chan immigrated to Canada from China when he was just 15 years old. Sam started his restaurant career at Denny’s Restaurant, where he went from a dishwasher to a district manager in only two short years. Inspired by the Canadian dream and the birth of his first child (Jason), Sam left Denny’s to start his own business in 1980. With the help of his wife, Irene, brothers, and sisters, Sam was able to establish a restaurant the combines elegance, simplicity, and comfort.
In addition to his extended family, both of Sam’s children, Jason and Jessica, had their first work experience in the family business. Although both Jason and Jessica have pursued post-secondary school, and other career paths, they have always had strong ties to the restaurant. Jason was so dedicated that in January of 2006, at the age of 25, (and after 25 years of business) he decided to take over the family business with his best friend Adam as a partner. Because Jason and Adam had been best friends since they were twelve, Adam was truly part of the Chan family and was welcomed into the family business with open arms. Funnily enough, Adam’s first job was dishwashing at Samuel’s. After working at various restaurants for over 10 years it was only fitting that Adam started a new chapter in his restaurant career at the place where it all started. Together, Jason and Adam have realized how truly special Samuel’s is, and are dedicated to maintaining its proud tradition, history, and grandeur.
